My latest piece for MarketWatch is now available. Here’s a taste:
[A] substantial number of retirees die with virtually no financial assets — 46.1% with less than $10,000 — and that many of these households also have no housing wealth and rely almost entirely on Social Security benefits for support. Not surprisingly, this group was also found to be in disproportionately poor health. This research alone should be enough to give pause to those who are quick to think that all is well in their retirement planning. But, of course, our behavioral biases conspire to convince us that these problems won’t be our problems.
